David is a Partner at Chapin Intellectual Property Law, LLC and has many
years of experience in both Engineering and Patent Law. He practices in all areas of
Intellectual Property Law related to Computer Software Systems and Applications, Electrical
Engineering Technologies, Data Communications Systems, Microprocessor and Computer
Architecture, Business Methods and Instrumentation. He also maintains an active Trademark
practice and is often involved with Due Diligence and drafting of patent opinions.
David has eleven years of Patent and Trademark Prosecution and Intellectual Property
experience in both public and private corporations, and in private practice with several
patent law firms. Prior to joining the firm, he was a partner at another patent firm and
prior to that position, he served as Corporate Counsel and Chief Patent Counsel for two high
technology companies involved in testing technologies and Internet communications. He is
quite experienced at client counseling on a wide range of intellectual property matters. In
addition to his legal experience, David has seventeen years of experience working at Digital
Equipment Corporation in computer hardware and software design and development.
David has a Juris Doctorate degree from Suffolk University Law School. In engineering
school, he majored in Electrical Engineering and graduated magna cum laude from Central New
England College of Technology with a Bachelors of Science in Engineering Technology.
Professionally, he is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court for the
First Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for
the Federal Circuit and before the Patent and Trademark Office. David is also active in the
Boston Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the
American Intellectual Patent Law Association, and the Boston Patent Law Association.
