Shaun is an Associate at Chapin Intellectual Property Law, LLC, where his practice focuses on patent prosecution. Prior to joining Chapin IP Law, Shaun worked for a prestigious Boston IP boutique firm and a large Boston general practice firm with a national patent department. Prior to working at those firm, he worked at the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome, New York.
Shaun drafts and prosecutes patent applications for clients of all sizes in the
electrical and mechanical arts. Shaun has experience in drafting and prosecuting both U.S.
and foreign patent applications. His specialties include software, computer hardware,
communications systems including VoIP systems and devices, analog and digital electronic
devices and circuits, mechanical arts, and business methods. Shaun also has extensive
experience in drafting and prosecuting design patent applications and researching novelty and
infringement issues, particularly in regards to cutting-edge technologies. In addition to
patent work, Shaun has prosecuted trademarks and consulted on technical issues for patent
litigations.
Shaun graduated from Union College in Schenectady, New York, with a Bachelor of
Science in Electrical Engineering, magna cum laude and a minor in Mathematics. Shaun received
honors from both Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu. While at Union, Shaun presented his senior
design project at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) and was chosen as a
member of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society. Shaun holds a Juris Doctorate from
Boston University School of Law, where he was Executive Editor of the Journal of Science &
Technology Law. During law school, Shaun published a note on Internet telephony/VoIP and
potential international regulatory issues facing that industry. Shaun is a member of the Bar
of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and
Trademark Office, and is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
