Paul is a Partner at Chapin Intellectual Property Law, LLC. Prior to joining the firm, he practiced law for several years at a large firm specializing in patent and trademark prosecution. He has counseled clients with respect to both U.S. and foreign patent applications, and has prosecuted over two hundred electronics, hardware, software, business method and physics-based patent applications. The subject technologies of the applications have varied greatly and include: software and business methods, electronic devices and circuits, power systems, wireless communications, networks/Internet, data storage, opto-electronic systems, lasers, instrumentation and semiconductors. In addition to patent prosecution, he has provided legal opinions and has been involved with intellectual property due diligence, litigation and trademark prosecution.

Prior to entering the legal field, Paul worked as an electrical design engineer for several companies. He has extensive practical engineering work experience in design, development and testing of analog and digital electronics and in software development. While at United Technologies (UTC) Hamilton Standard, he was involved in the design and development of fault tolerant, redundant engine control systems for commercial aircraft manufacturers such as Boeing and Airbus. After UTC, Paul worked as an engineer at Electronic Retailing Systems, a startup company that developed products to provide instant price information to shelf-edge displays in retail stores. Additionally, Paul led the electronic design group at General Scanning Laser Systems Division. At General Scanning, he managed the development of electronic interfaces for memory repair, thin-film, and thick-film laser-based manufacturing equipment. Combined, his practical engineering experience tallies to over 10 years.

Paul attended the University of Connecticut and earned a B.S.E.E. degree with an emphasis in electro-magnetic theory and semiconductor design. In addition to the B.S.E.E., he holds a M.S.E.E. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a J.D. from the New England School of Law.
