Jonathan has an excellent technical and patent/IP practice background including undergraduate and advanced graduate
degrees in Physics as well as 11+ years of experience practicing in patent drafting and prosecution and in patent
litigation. He worked for many of those years at Sughrue Mion in Washington, D.C. and Denison & Associates in Chicago,
IL, which are two of the largest IP/Patent law firms in the country. He provides intellectual property patent counseling, patent drafting and
prosecution services to clients in a wide variety of complex technologies.
Jonathan has worked on patent prosecution and litigation matters for numerous Fortune-500 and mid-sized
companies, many medical industry companies, major universities and several large healthcare
organizations. He currently focuses on patent drafting and prosecution and he is efficient at preparing high-quality
patent applications and prosecuting those applications via preparation of effective and persuasive Office Action
responses to gain allowance in a timely and cost-effective manner to minimize client expenses. Jonathan is also
skilled at providing patentability, patent infringement and non-infringement opinions and handling IP
due diligence matters.
Jonathan has prepared and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications and office action responses (both domestic and
foreign) in a wide variety of advanced technologies. Specific areas of his technical expertise include software
systems and application development, medical device technologies, medical software and imaging systems,
medical radiation technologies, physics and optical systems, materials science, automation, robotic design and
control technologies, sensor-based systems, artificial intelligence, computing systems, hardware devices, memory
and storage systems, semiconductor technologies including semiconductor stacked packaging and fabrication,
analog and digital electronics/circuitry, integrated circuit (IC) power control systems, mechanical and
electro-mechanical systems, manufacturing automation, voice/video/multimedia signal processing,
superconductors, electronic display technologies, graphics/user interface design, Internet/cloud/SaaS, database systems,
data networking and communications protocols, wireless/cellular devices and mobile communications systems,
E-commerce applications, data security, analytics, social media/consumer apps and software, business methods,
MEMS and nanotechnologies, and many other technical areas.
Before his career in patent law, Jonathan worked as a Radiation Physicist
for Therapy Physics, Inc. in Chicago, IL, a world-renowned leader in radiologic medical treatment technologies.
In this role Jonathan worked on the design, development, testing, configuration and calibration of medical radiation
therapy systems including Radiographic, Fluoroscopic, Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI),
Nuclear Medicine systems, Ultrasound and Mammography machines, devices, systems, shielding and software used
for the treatment of various medical conditions such as cancer that benefit from radiation treatment regimes.
Jonathan holds a B.S. in Physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology as well as an M.S. in Physics from the
University of Illinois. He obtained his J.D. in Law from Northeastern University School of Law in Boston, MA.
He is also registered as a Patent Attorney to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
