After working for many years in the software and electrical patent law groups at two of the largest intellectual property law firms in New England, and with a strong entrepreneurial ambition and passion for patent law and business, Barry started a law practice in 1999 and is the Founding Member of the firm. He has extensive experience in both patent law and engineering and currently practices in areas of Intellectual Property law related to the fields of software, computers, business methods, the Internet, electronics, communications systems, physics, medical devices, instrumentation, mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Prior to entering the patent field, he worked for nearly seven years in engineering.

Barry's law practice centers mainly around patent law and includes preparation and prosecution (both domestic and foreign) of patent applications, preparing patent opinions (non-infringement/infringement, validity/invalidity), providing IP due diligence, licensing of patent rights (including contingent fee licensing), patent portfolio development and management, and general intellectual property counseling to clients in a wide variety of technologies. Barry enjoys patent law and has a passion for business in general. He manages many of the Firm's clients including numerous Fortune-500 high-technology corporations as well as many medium sized and small companies, venture-backed start-ups, venture capital and investment firms, universities and non-profits, and even independent inventors.

In 2006, Barry was selected as a recipient of the prestigious "40 Under Forty" award by the Worcester Business Journal. The award recognizes a select group of 40 leaders in the Massachusetts business community who are outstanding in their fields.

Before entering law, Barry worked as an Engineer at GTE Government Systems Corporation and at the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory on various technical projects related to software, computers, electronics, communications, physics and instrumentation. His areas of technical expertise include software development; operating systems; database and storage technologies; computer networking and management; communications and Internet technologies (LAN, WAN, Wireless, protocols, etc.); electronics and signal processing; hardware design and operation; medical devices and instrumentation; mechanical and physics-based systems.

Barry obtained his law degree in the four-year evening law school program at Suffolk University School of Law in Boston while working full-time as an Engineer. In his second year of law school, he was able to pass the Patent Agents Exam and became registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This also enabled him to enter the field of Patent Law as a Patent Agent working full-time for one of the largest patent law firms in Boston while still attending law school at night. Upon passing the Massachusetts Bar Exam, he became a Registered Patent Attorney.

Barry also holds a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science and Physics minor from the State University of New York. Barry is a member of the Bar in Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the Federal District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He is also registered as a Patent Attorney to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Professionally, he is a member of the Boston Patent Law Association and several technical organizations and routinely attends technical conferences related to client technologies.
